What To Expect
Many times people tell me they have never been to therapy and aren't sure "how it's done". I believe in trying to decrease the chance of clients feeling awkward as much as possible, so the purpose of this page is to provide some very basic information.
When you arrive at my office, I ask that you simply have a seat in the waiting room. For your first time there will be a clipboard with some forms attached that I ask you to fill out. At the appointed time, I will come out and meet you.
I will begin gathering information from you in the first session, as well as in subsequent sessions. Additionally, we will use this time to help clarify your goals for therapy. As your therapy progresses, at times the mood of the session will be serious, at times we'll laugh. No matter how comfortable a relationship we form, my role in your life is as your therapist. I will let you know when we are approaching the end of the session so there are a few minutes to bring it to a close.
Fees
We will have discussed the fee before your first visit. The fee for the session is payable by cash or check and I collect the fee at the session. I can provide a receipt upon request.
Insurance
In my private practice I am an in-network provider for Aetna and for some Cofinity policies. Otherwise, I am a "fee for service" provider and will gladly provide a detailed receipt for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
I am able to see clients under most other insurances (including Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Blue Care Network) at Ann Arbor Consultation Services. You may call there and request me as the therapist.
Cancellation Policy
When we schedule a session, I am reserving that time just for you. If you need to cancel the session, it is important for me to receive enough advance notice so I may offer that time to someone else. I request 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session, or you will be charged for the session.
