Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples
Psychotherapy
The therapy I provide is generally short to mid-term in length and available to both individuals and couples. My focus is to help my clients make sense of past experiences influencing current beliefs and to co-create workable solutions that free them to begin living healthier, happier lives.
While I utilize multiple approaches with clients, as a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, I favor cognitive-behavioral interventions, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My couples therapy draws from the research of John Gottman, Ph.D., as well as from the theory of Imago Therapy by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., and from Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. with regards to emotional regulation. See recommended books by these authors.
Special areas of focus include:
- Relationships
- Counseling for marriage and other committed relationships
- Second marriages and stepfamily issues
- Singles relationship counseling
- Social Anxiety
- Fear of public speaking
- Initiating contact with others
- Improving social skills
- General Anxiety
- Limiting life experiences to control anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Life Transitions/Grief and Loss
- Divorce
- Death of a family member or friend
- Other losses accumulated over the life span
Special emphasis is placed on considering the impact of each individual's ethnicity, race, socioeconomic class, gender and sexual orientation.
